Polyester, nylon and spandex dominate modern performance textiles. These materials are engineered for durability, but they can trap heat, increase friction and release microplastic fibres during wear and washing.
The industry built its entire supply chain around petroleum-derived synthetics, and most of what sits against your skin today is, functionally, plastic.
Nōht fabrics combine plant-derived cellulose fibres, renewable bio-based polymers and bio-based elastane. The result is a textile system that performs without relying on petrochemicals.
Clothing designed to work with the body rather than sitting against it like plastic.
A proprietary fibre system. Composed from four bio-based yarns.
The nōht fabric system combines marine-derived cellulose, botanical fibres and renewable plant-based performance polymers. Each fibre plays a specific role: thermoregulation, softness against the skin, structural recovery, or flexibility under movement. Together they do what petroleum textiles were never designed to.
WILD-HARVESTED SEAWEED
Wild-harvested seaweed retains naturally occurring marine minerals, vitamins and antioxidant molecules which neutralise free radicals within 120 minutes of skin contact. Unlike synthetic performance fabrics, it doesn't require chemical finishing treatments to feel soft. The softness is structural.
→ Naturally occurring antioxidants
→ Mineral-rich marine compounds
→ Breathable fibre structure
→ Gentle contact with skin
BOTANICAL CELLULOSE
Derived from sustainably sourced plant pulp and regenerated into fine-gauge filaments, botanical cellulose has a smooth outer surface that sits flat against the skin. Its internal structure absorbs and releases moisture as you move, which means our fabric regulates rather than reacts. No trapped heat. No clinging.
→ Smooth fibre surface
→ Efficient moisture management
→ Breathable plant-derived fibre
→ Biodegradable cellulose base
BIO-NYLON
Bio-nylon replaces conventional petroleum-based polyamide with a high-performance polymer derived from castor bean oil. It provides the tensile strength and shape retention that activewear demands, without the fossil-fuel dependency. This is the fibre, that means our garment holds its form through repeated wear and wash.
→ Lightweight structural strength
→ High durability and resilience
→ Renewable plant-derived inputs
→ Reduced fossil-fuel dependency
BIO-ELASTANE
Conventional elastane is petroleum-derived. Bio-elastane achieves the same stretch and recovery using renewable feedstocks including corn-based inputs. Within our fabric system, it allows garments to flex, recover, and hold their shape over time without compromising on the elasticity that active movement requires.
→ High stretch and elastic recovery
→ Plant-derived raw material inputs
→ Dynamic movement support
→ Durable elastic performance
Designed for skin.
This is a textile system for your skin. The natural performance coating in nōht's marine cellulose yarn is not topical wear or surface finish. The fabric sits against your skin as an active layer.
Most textiles are built for performance first. This one is engineered to reduce irritation, friction and synthetic load where your body feels it most.
Nōht fabric is made from bio-based fibres designed to work with your skin rather than press against it.
Smooth cellulosic fibre surfaces sit fat against the skin, reducing friction and irritation during repetitive movement.
The seaweed-arched cellulose component is independently tested for antioxidant activity. retained after 60 washes.
Each fibre is OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Class I certified. Dermatologically rated "Excellent, Free from PFAS, BPA, and phthalates
Free from fossil-derived polyester, nylon, and elastane. No chemical softening treatments. The softness is structural
High compression, breathability and moisture-wicking performance
The nōht fabric system is constructed through seamless knit engineering using bio-based performance yarns.
The result is activewear that delivers compression, stretch recovery, breathability and durability without relying on fossil-derived synthetics.
FOUR-WAY STRETCH
Bio-based elastane and knit construction provide unrestricted movement in every direction. The fabric stretches with the body during lateral, rotational and vertical movement, recovering its shape immediately.
COMPRESSION SUPPORT
Engineered knit tension delivers consistent compression across muscle groups. The fabric supports without restricting, maintaining even pressure through extended wear and repeated washing.
MOISTURE MANAGEMENT
Cellulose fibres absorb and release moisture vapour as the body heats. Rather than trapping sweat against the skin like synthetic wicking layers, the fabric regulates moisture through its fibre structure. Quick-drying and breathable during high-output activity.
DURABILITY
Bio-nylon derived from castor plant oil provides the tensile strength and abrasion resistance that performance apparel requires. Shape retention, colourfastness and structural integrity are maintained through repeated wear and wash cycles.
Grown, not made from oil.
Conventional activewear is built from petrochemical fibres that can persist in the environment for decades. The nōht yarn system eliminates fossil-derived synthetics entirely, replacing them with renewable inputs: sea algae, cellulose from sustainably sourced wood, castor bean oil, and corn.
RENEWABLE INPUTS
Every fibre in the nōht system is derived from renewable feedstocks. No fossil-derived polyester, nylon, or elastane. The bio-nylon component carries a 25% lower carbon footprint than standard nylon. The bio-elastane component produces 20% lower greenhouse gas emissions than its conventional equivalent.
RESPONSIBLE SOURCING
Fibres are sourced from certified suppliers across Europe and Asia. All supply partners hold relevant third-party certifications including OEKO-TEX, EU Ecolabel, ISCC PLUS, FSC, and USDA BioPreferred.
FIBRE BIODEGRADABILITY
The cellulose fibre component, 49% of the yarn system, biodegrades in approximately 41 days under composting conditions. Verified by TÜV Austria OK Compost HOME certification.
NATURAL DYE
The black pigment is 100% bio-based, derived from FSC-certified wood waste. Carbon-negative. No fossil carbon. No PFAS. No detected carcinogenic compounds. Certified under OEKO-TEX ECO
PASSPORT and ZDHC at the highest compliance level. A direct replacement for petroleum-derived carbon black, one of the most widely used toxic pigments in the textile industry. Even the colour is grown, not drilled.
